i an sorry to say I will never spend another dollar at this place. They have good food but drunk obnoxious customers are what they cater to. My family was subjected to foul mouth customers who were so loud we couldn't even talk. We complained to management who went over and joined in. When we asked the customers to tone it down as we had children then said "Last week while I was in church" and continued to shout everything they said obviously inebriated. Over serving liquor the manager is a jerk who apparently joins in with drunken customers. We were a party of 12 and spent over $130. for the worst dining experience of my life. If you care about your children and choose to go here, leave them at home. THIS IS NOT A FAMILY RESTAURANT.

This place didn't really do it for me but It had a lot to do with what I ordered. The last time I was here I made the mistake of ordering one of the "lunch specials" its funny how mexican restaurants serve you three things on a plate such as a burrito, enchilada, and a chile rellenos but they are all the exact same thing... Hamburger wrapped in a tortilla but different sized tortillas lol. I went to this place yesterday and my friend opened me up to the amazing things on the menu like the chorizo tacos and the garibaldi with chicken and I have to say I was very impressed with both and it really made this place stand out. Overall the food is very good just watch what you order

This place is about 8 years old and we just tried it for the 1st time tonight! Cedar Rapids isn't exactly a mecca of fine dining. We have a few above average places but this is mostly a chain town. Mexican cuisine certainly doesn't shine here. That said, for Americanized Mexican food (and what else can it be this far from the border or Chicago!) this is certainly a cut above everything else we've tried in CR. We had 9 people and arrived near 7pm. We were shocked that we were seated immediately in a nice back room where is was both less crowded and more quiet. Very nice. Pros: Chips are fantastic. Warm, fresh and extremely light. Salsa was also quite good with a bit of heat. Entrees were all well above average. Good size portions and fresh distinct flavors. Cons: Beans and Rice were both average. the beans were meh and the rice was overcooked and dry. Overall a very surprising visit. We will be back.

Friday's - happy hour jumbo Margs! And a huge plate of Nachos Supreme. What can be better than that. Muy bueno.

I thought I would find Casa Las Glorias on the same level as Hacienda on 1st Ave. I was disappointed. It still feels like a Shoney's inside and out and the menu is equally uninspiring.

We used to eat at Casa Las Gloria's occasionally, but hadn't gone for some time. We decided to drop in a couple of weeks ago for dinner. The food has never been that great and it seemed Ok that night; however, we both got sick the next day. It was very clear to us this was due to food poisoning from this place. While it is impossible to prove we have little doubt that their food was to blame. We will NEVER go back!

Warm and fresh chips. Had the Garabaldi, which was VERY tasty!!! Only drawback is that they got rid of their Dos Equis. 32 oz Negro Modelo still topped off a great lunch.

We had a coupon and was our only reason for dining there. Didn't like the atmosphere at all. It was a bright light and not very homey.. or comfortable. I had the enchilada dinner which was small and not tasty. Husband had a platter which didn't fill him up in the least. The beans were all dried up and the rice was tasteless. Neither of us are picky eaters but this place finished in last for us

Chips were warm and crunchy. Temp as were full of steak and chorizo and were extremely tasty. Service was friendly and fast. Price was very reasonable for the amount of food. Definitely will return.

I had a combo with a relleno and an enchilada, my go-to order in a place I haven't been. It was just OK, the chili relleno was overcooked but on the positive side the salsa had a nice spicy kick. A bit noisy and hard to hear the waiter, he couldn't hear us either. I'd go to 3 stars but it just wasn't memorable enough for 3 stars.

Great homemade chips! Friendly service, great food, happy we found this place during Ragbrai. Oh, and get the flan!!!

This is the best Mexican food in town. I love all of the flavors in the burritos, enchiladas and margaritas. The service and atmosphere are just wonderful. I always have an excellent time whenever I go here.

Amazing margaritas. It's like dining with family. Owner very involved front of house. I get something different every time and it is always super. Great for kids. Affordable. Love this place.

Have been to this establishment to give another chance to change my review, but alas I cannot. While the complimentary chips and salsa are a welcoming positive, there is not much else to continue in that regard. Both booths which we have sat in have tears in the seats. I do understand that things get worn out with frequent use, but this goes a bit farther than that. Both times we have dined here many of the aforementioned chips from previous patrons have made it to the floor and no effort has been made to clean them up. This lack of cleanliness was illuminated very acutely when some melted cheese from my dish was spilled on the floor walking up to and at our table. No effort was made to wipe this up or even cover it up. The food was acceptable for Midwestern Mexican food. In additional to the chips and salsa the saving grace is the price. It is rather reasonably priced which could lead to the previously mentioned issues with cleanliness.

They have one of the best Refried beans. They call it the bean dip. Awesome and god sent.

Bluh...understaffed bar area, no limes for my Pacifico and a greasy burrito just to name a few. Chips and salsa were free though, that's about a positive as it gets.

Margaritas don't taste great but strong-- which is worth a star. The other is for the chips and salsa. Not bad. The food is over cooked and blah. We could only eat half our meals and walked out. But the server was cool.

Rapidly becoming my favorite Mexican Restaurant in town; great place to meet friends for dinner and drinks or lunch on the weekend. The location is in an old Shoney's restaurant next to a hotel. They have a decent bar area with a big screen TV which is where I usually sit. The place is decorated in Mexican themed decor which creates as much atmosphere as probably possible for a former Shoney's. The service is good, and the servers friendly. The food, basically a mix of authentic and Tex-Mex, is very good or at least as good as you will find in Iowa. The portions are generous with a large menu selection and the prices are very reasonable. They also have a numbered lunch section on the menu, but I have never ordered from it as I fear the portions could be smaller. The chips and salsa are only above average (to my opinion),but that being said I always seem to need refills. I really like their guacamole which is much better than can be found in most restaurants (of course nothing beats my homemade guac!). Almost everything on the menu looks good, but I usually order the El Grande Burrito; it's a beef, chicken, and bean burrito, with guacamole, sour cream, lettuce & tomato (careful, the plate will be hot). It's huge, will easily fill up even a big eater like me and is a great value at $8.25.

First time eating here tonight. Not half bad, I'd come back again I suppose. I always see several cars in the parking lot on the weekends, and it was a fairly steady crowd on a Wednesday night tonight. The welcome from the hostess was not warm, however; thank goodness our server was very friendly and attentive. I had the carne asada tacos and they were quite good, especially the sauteed onions in them. You get three soft shells filled with steak and onions, then have pico de gallo, rice, and beans on your plate. I left feeling very full. The pico de gallo that accompanied my tacos was not fresh and crisp; it was mushy and tasted and looked as if it had been sitting out all day. It was very watery and left behind a puddle that moved into my beans and rice. Not pleasant.

If I could give this place no stars, I would. Horrible service, gross food.. Don't bother. The only reason this place is in business is because it's next to a hotel. Seriously, I want to ask Robert from Restaurant Impossible to come fix this mess.

Great food, great service, great chips&salsa and the best/strongest Margs in town (the lime, rocks, salt, jumbo gold/texas is my poison). This was apart of the local Hacienda Las Glorias restaurants until Kent bought it out. They have kept the food/menu comparable, and added some things and tweaked a few others. They also have nice weekly/monthly specials, happy hour, and awesome specialty soups (limited qty! so get when you can). Staff is always friendly and inviting. Nice bar area. Several TVs too. Nice booth sizes, and there are a few places where you can set-up large parties as well as a party room. Located right off 380 and Blairsferry Road. Cant miss it.

Well what can I say...did I really expect to find good Mexican food in Iowa? I must admit, my expectations were very low when I arrived, so if this review had been done in San Diego, where we have amazing Mexican food, it would have probably been a 3* review. If you are in Iowa, this is your best bet for an almost Mexican restaurant. I have to say, I did enjoy the chicken fajitas, and was given a huge portion. The chips and salsa were a little weak, the salsa tasted a lot like tomato sauce - Be sure to ask them to bring you the hot salsa from the back, it is a little better than what they bring to the table. I had a margarita, but didn't really enjoy it. There was far too much sour mix, and not enough tequila - it tasted like candy. I was very impressed that the owner and her young daughter (10-15 years old) were out in the restaurant greeting patrons and cleaning the restaurant. I give you 5* for actively working and making sure everyone was having a good time. Well done. I did leave very full and satisfied with my food. If I am ever in Iowa again, I will be back for some more fajitas.

I don't generally update reviews, but I feel compelled to after my second meal here. My first meal here was excellent, but my second meal (pollo con chipotle) was absolutely amazing. Interestingly, I only ordered it because I'm pretty sure I have become lactose intolerant (which limits Mexican options). It turns out that this meal was amazing. It was cooked perfectly, with just the right amount of spice to be hot, but not overpower the other wonderful flavors.

To appreciate their food you can't order their numbered menu, their food is awesome once you get off of the 1-10 (not that it's bad) their chipotle ribs are hands down the best ribs in town, sabroso burrito is amazing enough for 2 grown people, I've eaten about everything there. Oh I can't forget their margaritas, amazing, get 1 jumbo or 2 if you want to be extra happy!

Absolutely horrendous service and food. First, when we said we needed a couple more minutes to decide what we wanted to eat our server disappeared for literally 20 minutes. Then he brought us the wrong dishes. We also wanted fried ice cream, but it took another 20 minutes to get his attention after we finished our meals. The food was cold too by the time we got it. We really didn't even want to eat it but we were starving. The rice was good, but that was about it. The chips were also stale. And we asked for two tickets, and he gave us one (and it wasn't even ours). So yeah, I don't recommend this place at all. I was there a couple years before this and apparently forgot how awful that experience was as well. My boyfriend and I got there at the end of a lunch rush around 1:30/2pm. Our server clearly didn't want to work. She sat a few tables behind us and talked the entire time. We actually walked up to her to ask her to come refill our drinks and another time to ask for our checks.

Gross margaritas, slow service, and sub par food. I've been to many more authentic, and much better Mexican restaurants. Avoid this place like the plague. We waited 15 minutes for our drinks, 45+ minutes for our food, and 15+ for our check after asking. Avoid!!!

The house margarita was honestly the worst margarita I've ever had. It was a clear green and tasted like lime juice and gold house tequila. The entire place gave off an unappealing vibe..we went in with the intention to eat and left before we finished our margaritas.

Extremely disappointing. We went there a week ago and it took forever to get seated despite 3 different servers walking past us. Then they argued over whose turn it was to take a table right in front of us. Secondly, we were surprised that this was almost all white servers and not a true Hispanic to be seen, other than the bartender. When our server sat us we asked about drink specials and for a drink menu and he blatantly complained about the management saying that they had been asking for a long time for menus and they never get them. We ordered drinks, glanced over the menu and decided we would rather not waste our money based on our disappointing service thus far. I do not know HOW this place was voted KCRG best of Mexican!!! Are you kidding me!

I'm a decent cook and I don't love to eat out, but I do love to eat here. The margaritas are GREAT, and the pork dishes are delectable. The salsa verde is special. The other day I ordered some refried beans covered in roasted pork covered with cheese and salsa verde and an egg over easy on top as well as some soft corn tortillas and of course a JUMBO margarita to wash it down. It may have been the best brunch I've ever had away from home. The chips and salsa are always great (if you like it spicy ask for picosa). Plenty of options for kids (try a virgin strawberry, peach or raspberry slushie, mine love em). I could eat here everyday, almost do.

Cute Mexican boys, fresh made tortilla chips and the salsa had a pretty good bite going. The food was like- really made at the restaurant- and wasn't described to me as- "have you had the #3 @ Taco Bell?" (true story @ Carlos O'Kelly's- of which I will refuse to even waste my time reviewing because the FDA should be in there any day now to shut'er down!?) No 5 stars til they up their tamale selection- then they'll get a big OLE from me!

Our large family used to frequent this restaurant until it came under new management in late summer of 2008. The takeover lead to changes in recipes, the Quesadilla I received during one visit was awful. My grandmother couldn't even cut her flank steak with a steak knife. It was sad.

Average Mexican restaurant. They offer a wide range of flavored margaritas. Hint: stay away from the peach! It was terrible - tasted like cheap schnapps that you'd find behind your uncle's basement bar. My girlfriend had to send hers back. Stick with the lime!

Mexican Cuisine

If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.

Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.

Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.
